High-Accuracy Laser RIN Measurement

made simple with RT-40 instrument.

DFB laser RIN data
The example above was taken with RT-40 and Agilent 4407 ESA.

How it works - schematics
RT-40 converts the ESA you already own into a high-accuracy RIN measurement system.

DFB laser RIN calibration
"RIN standard" calibration eliminates fake peaks and enables correct measurements close to shot noise. Here, primitive "DC" calibration underestimated RIN by 10 dB.

How It Works

We provide an optional laptop that controls both RT40 and your ESA to quickly start measuring RIN. The RT-40 can also be part of your test rack, remotely controlled with VISA-type commands. The video below shows how a $260 TinySA ESA can be used to measure RIN with shot-noise-limited sensitivity.
